Kerri-Ann’s Priorities

Growing up in Miramar, Kerri-Ann witnessed firsthand the growth of our beautiful city. Growth in our city’s geographical limits, growth in the number of small and large businesses, and growth in the sheer number of diverse residents. As our city continues to grow and flourish, it’s pertinent we ensure that all residents have a path to prosperity. Kerri-Ann believes that the following priorities will create that path and help move Miramar forward.

Reimagine Our Public Safety
Every neighborhood in Miramar should be safe. We can achieve this by ensuring equal access to our city's resources and increasing the level of transparency into legislative changes and initiatives.

  • Utilize learnings from the COVID-19 pandemic to increase and improve our city's preparedness and budget contingency plans

  • Increase lines of communication between first responders and community members, ensuring ongoing cultural awareness

  • Expand crisis intervention and de-escalation procedures to address non-combative situations

  • Avoid water quality issues experienced in neighboring cities by providing ongoing updates related to the city's water and wastewater projects

Prioritize Inclusive Practices
Our city’s policies and procedures should be equitable for all. This requires having an intentional focus on promoting inclusive practices.

  • Increase engagement opportunities between residents and city leaders to foster an open line of communication to uncover challenges and brainstorm potential solutions (e.g. listening tours and town halls)

  • Partner with local businesses and organizations to take an “Open to All Pledge” and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all city residents and visitors

  • Ensure that residents, especially women, seniors, immigrants, and communities of color, have a seat at the table when city-wide policies and procedures are being developed, implemented, and reassessed

Guarantee Sustainable Growth
As our beautiful city continues to grow, we must routinely assess the impact on the viability of a sustainable future.

  • Continually evaluate the City of Miramar's living wage to ensure that residents are able to maintain a safe and decent standard of living within our communities

  • Ensure the preservation of our city's natural assets (e.g. air and water quality) and transportation systems (e.g. public road conditions and commute times)

  • Provide additional incentives for businesses, organizations, and residents to invest in solar energy

Support Small Business
With a large number of minority-owned businesses throughout our city, now more than ever, we need to ensure that we are supporting our small business owners and ensuring access to tools and resources to open or grow a business in Miramar.

  • Streamline communication for new and existing business owners related to city and county permits, compliance, and safety regulations

  • Work collaboratively with county and state officials to bring additional resources to business owners

  • Leverage the City of Miramar's marketing team to promote small businesses and increase awareness of goods and services being offered right here in our city
